Sorting so only one certain field comes up

Featured Replies

I am new at this. I am getting some of it but sorting and getting what I want is driving me crazy. I have one field that is a drop down list. You can choose two names from it.

The boss wants to be able to run a report by finding one name and printing all related records. So the report has to be seperated by names. Maybe a script would work here. I do not have it as a portal, since I am still trying to grasp that concept.

What would be the easiest way to find all records associated with a particular name so I can run a report? Hope this makes sense. Thank you.

if you want a report separated by names(or any field), you're probably looking at creating a subsummary report. Look up this term in the Filemaker help.

Basically, you sort the records on the fields by which you want to arrange the report, then you create subsummary layout parts for each of the sort fields. You can also place summary fields in those layout parts to give subtotals, averages, etc. for the groups.
