How to install FMSA 7 on a W2003 PC which already use Apache ? multihoming ?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've burntt some nights without success trying to install FMSA7 on my W2003 server.

The proble is, that I already use easy php (apache) on it.

Since FMSA7 wants to use the crappy MS internet server, I have to use another P adress on the same machine for the IIS server.

BUT, FMSA7 doesn't seems to like that. I only was able to make it work by diabling the pacvhe server and use only one ip adress.

The problem seems to lie in the FMSA7 config interfce which does not allow to set correctly the second IIS IP adress everywehre. At some points it use the apache one.

If only there was a config text file for FMSA7 settings I could bypass the FMSA7 interface, is there one ?

Any help

Thanks

Not sure what kind of response you're expecting from people who know FMSA & IIS very well by describing it as crappy...

First, I echo Wim'c comments.

Second, I can tell you that Apache on Windows is not a supported platform for FileMaker Server 7 Advanced. So when you say FMSA is using Apache, I don't know what you've found.

Recommend you review the Tech Brief on FileMaker Server and consult the WPE Install Guide that comes with the product.

Finally, I can tell you this much based on a number of installations over the past year or so: it is much easier to configure Web Publishing using FMS and IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003 than it is to configure it on OS X Server with Apache. Works correctly in both situations, but it is much easier to configure and to manage on Windows Server 2003.

And, no, this is not a platform war. This message is being composed and sent on OS X.

Maybe I have badly expressed what the problem is.

The problem is that I want to install FMSA & IIS on a W2003 server Machine that already use Apache (for other stuff).

I don't want to to Run FMSA with Apache (I would have liked to, but I know this is unsuported), I want to run FMSA with IIs on the same machine that runs my other mysql/php process.

So FMSA and Apache have nothing to do in my setup, except the fact that FMSA is troubled by my Apache server.

So the question is how to install FMSA on a server that runs already apache for othert stuff.

I don't think you can do this, but I will make an inquiry.

Surprise!

It can be done. You just need to make sure that Apache and IIS are using different ports. Only one of them can serve on Port 80. FMSA will work with whatever port the web server is set to. Remember that the CGI stringmust include the Port if it is other than 80.

Thanks,

I already tried the different port thing. BUT, at some point in the configuration, FMSA get itself the apache ip (which is port 80)address and there's no way to change it to something else.

If I shutdown apache, that's ok. I've read about IIs stealing the port 80 for itself but I applied the work around and it change nothing

Did anyone ACTUALLY did it ?

You are likely to have to tell IIS to use another port. In the IIS configuration options there is a placeto set that. I am on the road today and do not have access to server to tell you explicitly where that is, but IIRC you access it thru the IIS manager control service.
