Great start FileMaker now just fix it!

Ok so it is great to have a start at this interface but it's just a frustrating teaser to me so far.

We need to be able to size the tabs independently of the names and not even have to give the tab a name.

Make the tabs buttons (or not) so we can assign scripts, be able to use fields/scripts/parameters to name the tabs.

Set permissions for tabs like we can with layouts, fields, scripts, etc.

Over lay container fields with graphics for buttons on the tabs and assign scripts and disable the built in tab navigation.

Easily identify the tab(s) and fields on the tabs from within ScriptMaker. GoToLayout(layoutName, tab), Get(tabName),etc.

We also need to be able to do this at least 3 or 4 levels deep. Identify a tab within a tab within a tab within a tab on a layout.

You get the idea.

At this point from a developer perspective for the kinds of interfaces I develop the new tab interface is unusable. The work arounds listed here in this forum are just that, work arounds. There are no advantages to changing my/our current tab interface designs (work arounds) using multiple layouts, global containers, scripts, etc. to the new tab work arounds. Better off waiting until FileMaker makes the new tab interface customizable. I wonder how much that will cost us?

'Fix it', IMHO, is not right: it isn't broken. It is a brand new feature that obviously could do with more functionality, but a company can only develop so much between versions. I'm sure that printing specialists among us would love to have more control over texts and graphics, that more programmatically inclined people would like more control in scripts, etc.

I, for one, am quite happy with the new tab controls. As long as one sees them as 'more layout space without having to scroll', they work as designed :)

Rome wasn't built in one day, let's see how FMI makes things better in the next version :)

Sure it is a workaround! But some weeks ago, I proposed a quick/simple solution about using scripted and totally customizable tab controls. Here is the link :)

Of course FMI will improve this functionality in the future.

HTH.
