Hey I'm a total beginner at filemaker so don't be too harsh. :

I'm trying to figure out how to make it so only certain fields can be modified by a given account. Such as "User1" can only modify field1, field2, and field3 but none of the other dozen or so fields. I can get to where I need to be (I believe) in setting a Boolean calculation but I can't seem to tell it what it wants to see. Field1 = * and Field1 = "*" didn't seem to have any effect. I tried a few other combinations, but no luck.

I also looked through the forum here but after a few pages I only saw one other guy with the same question and he managed to figure it out...lucky him.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response however I've already made it that far. Let me elaborate a little more on the current situation.

When setting account privleges there's an option to set limited privleges. Inside that area it appears I can set privleges for specific fields. On the left side there's a list of fields and to the right of it there's a selection of operators such as "=" "^" "and" and others. Below that there's a blank field where I put together a Boolean calculation to set these rights. I'm trying to set it so that the current user I'm modifying can only modify fields "Field1" and "Field2" but not any of the other fields.

What I need to know is what Boolean formula I need to put into that field.

Thanks!

under the edit menu for a privledge set...

under the record drop down choose custom privileges

then click one a table and on the bottom right change the feild access to limted and it will pop up with a list of all the fields in that table and you can set it to modifiable, view-only, or no access

and that is how you do it : )

i hope that makes sense..because i'm not entierly sure where you are trying to edit it

Vich he is using FM6.

goramba, go to File -->Access Privleges.

Create a group, and then click on access. You can limit which fields the group can go to.
