Calc field with text formatting

Hi all:

Sorry if this is a remedial question, but I have a text field that stores the body of a letter. I typed it out with some text formatting such as bold and tabs and stuff. Since each letter will contain info specific to each record (client) I created a calculation field that turns my merge field text into the actual data in the corresponding field, using nested substitutions.

However, this calc field does not carry over the formatting attributes like bold and such. How would I accomplish this?

Thanks for your help.

Never mind. I just pasted the text from the original field onto a print layout and formatted it anyways.

I just read your post. When you said 'merge' it appeared that you used merge fields but you did not? I don't understand using nested Substitutions() here.

You can have a generic text letter (including your bold formatting etc) and insert the merge field, ie, ClientName, right within the letter and it will change with each record.

Example letter:

Dear <>,

You have been a customer of ours since <> and we appreciate your business.

... etc. Using merge fields works wonderfully! I may be missing your point however. :wink2:
