HockeyFan Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Hi I have a layout that I created in Photoshop and inserted on my Filemaker layout. I have an area that says "User License". I would like to have a button over this that when you click it, it will open up the User License (which is quite long) in a separate window, or some sort of pop up, or something. But I also need it to have scroll bars. I tried using the show custom dialog script step for this, but there were no scroll bars, so that didn't help at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated:) Thanks!
LaRetta Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Hi HockeyFan, I deleted your duplicate post in Custom Functions. 1) You don't need a custom function for this problem and 2) double posting is unnecessary and discouraged. I'm confident your question will be answered with only one posting. LaRetta
HockeyFan Posted November 3, 2005 Author Posted November 3, 2005 I wasn't sure if I would need a custom function for it or not...and that's why I posted in two places...sorry. Thanks for letting me know what happened to the post.
stanley Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 HockeyFan: It sounds like you want to use New Window[], but I'm not sure if I follow the rest of what you're after. -Stanley
LaRetta Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I'm back. You can have exactly what you want. New Window as Standley points out AND a scroll bar on a User License that Users can't modify. I've also thrown in one of my favorite alternate techniques, producing a [spoilerq:1]Spoiler[/spoilerq] [spoilera:1][color:red] Hide large blocks of text within small spaces.[/spoilera] I could only spare 10 minutes on the demo; I'm quite pressed right now. But you will easily figure it out. LaRetta Spoilere.zip
LaRetta Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I forgot to mention. You realize I hid the field of course ... but it doesn't need to be hidden. It just needs to be skinny. If you take that calc (hidden under the Company rectangle) and resize it to 2 px. high, it becomes a white line. It could just as well be part of the top border and cover the entire page when popped. And when popped, the 2 px. height is ignored and you get full field expansion. This is powerful because two fields can share the same space - one field which can be modified (or not) and another field which can expand over the top (see attached). I overlap this way by placing calculations on top of portals also providing dual use of a space. And no, Soren, I'm not implying over-crowding a layout but rather 'uncrowding' a layout by doubling in some situations. Oh. And to keep fields from showing (because they'll show borders even if tucked under a rectangle, go to Layout Setup and uncheck 'Show Field Frames when Active.' Upon a re-read this morning, I should mention that this is NOT something I discovered, nor is it new. But new field-control behaviors in vs. 7 increases its worth tremendously and I find it useful.
