I'm trying to move my old Server 5 files, which I was hosting from a Mac, to a PC. Never considering that I would ever need to use a PC, I failed to follow proper PC naming conventions when I originally designed the database files several years ago.

Some of the files have no extension name, some have .fp5, .fmp, .fp6, etc. I ran the files through Developer 6 trying to add the correct extension but to no avail. The relationships were broken and my opening script step failed to find the new files.

Other than having to redo all the relationships, is there a workaround or is it too late to salvage these files?

Using Developer 6 is the way to go: open the Developer Tool that came with it, select all your files and put new names in. That's the only safe way to rename files and preserve relationships.

Thank you for the suggestion but I've already tried that without success. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I drag all the files and rename each one adding the .fp5 to the name. When I open up the newly renamed files, all the relationships have been broken. All the relationships are showing

Any ideas?

Well, I duplicated the folder in which all the files reside and then ran those through the Developer Tool.

Some of the files didn't need to be renamed because they already had the correct extention (.fp5). I did, however, include those in the renaming process.

I did not use the Dev Tool option of adding .fp5, I just clicked on the file name, clicked the rename button and manually added the extension.

Should I have done both?

After duplicating the folder did the files in the new folder work correctly? All relationships intact?

What happened after you ran the rename tool?

Yes, the relationships were all still intact after duplicating the files. I renamed each file, giving it the .fp5 extension if it wasn't already there, and adding a character to the name if the .fp5 extension was already present. In Developer I selected both the "add .fp5" and "rename files" options.

After the solution was created, all the relationships were gone.
