peronn Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Hey, Just received my copy of FM Pro 8 Advanced and tried to install it. I have a G4, 1 ghz, 256 mb ram and OS X 10.3.9. Everything works fine, i can se the installation beginn and the progress bar moving, but after a minute or so it just stops and returns to the previous dialog (the one where you choose custom och ordinary installation). And I try again and the same thing happens yet one more time. Anyone that has any tips or now what the problem is? Thank you!
Kent Searight Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Is there enough room on the drive you're trying to install it on?
peronn Posted November 10, 2005 Author Posted November 10, 2005 Tahnks for your answer. There is almost 3 gb left on the harddrive i don't know how much FM8 Pro Advanced Requires in installation but i can't be that much : I talked to support today and they had no clue. They asked to perform a Repair disk permissions on it but that didn't help. I've studied the problem closer and the installation aborts on the exact same file everytime. The filename that's showing above the progressbar when it aborts is "Open SSL". Any one else had a similar problem och have any more tips on what i can try?
CyborgSam Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Interesting.... There are two files named OpenSLL installed, one in FileMaker Pro.app:Contents:Frameworks:OpenSSL.framework:Versions:A:OpenSSL and the other in FileMaker Pro.app:Contents:MacOS:OpenSSL. The one in Frameworks is there, but the one in Contents is not. There are some other files in Contents that are installed but not currently there. So here's my guess from looking at the install order: During the install, FileMaker uses its certificates, and this part of the process is blowing up. Verify that your Keychains are all OK and not corrupted. Open Keychain Access and then choose Window > Keychain First Aid.
peronn Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Thanks for your answer! I tried the keychain repair and did repair on it and it reported "No problems found". But it still doesn't work. I have manged to make a copy of the installation log just before it disapears. Mayby someone can see something usefull on it? Some of the words are in swedish but ain't to hard to translate : Installationsval = instalation choice /type Enkel installation = Simple instal Skapat mappen = Created folder Installerad = Installed The log is attached and as you can se the last thing thats written is "Installed ... openssl.config" This is frustrating since the Filemaker support stil haven't got an ideas on what to do. Thanks for all your help! Installer_Log_File.txt
Steveoc Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 Hi I'm no FileMaker expert, but I have a very similar configuration: G4 1 Ghz 10.3.9. I can tell you from experience that more RAM and hard drive space does wonders for the install process. In general, everything will run MUCH better if you up that RAM to at least 512 MB. 3 GB on the Hard drive is starting to get pretty tight--that's about where I draw the line. I was running my Mac with just under 3 GB of space, and performance was starting to take a hit. Since I put in a bigger drive, everything performs better. OS X functions better with more free space on the hard drive. I have noted that the amount of free HD space affects the speed and smoothness of installation dramatically. Just a suggestion! Steve
peronn Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 Thanks for all your help! The problem is solved. Well, i never found out the real problem. But i created a second user for my OS X with admin rights. Then i logged in as that user and cold without problems install the program in the application folder. Then i could start the program from my main user. Well if you have a similar problem, try that.
