clz Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 (edited) I have downloaded the trial version of FM Server 8 and have installed it on our server running MS SBS 2003. Everything seemed to install fine but I cannot see the sample database from my computer when I try to connect to Remote. Our firewall is not on the server so I don't think those ports should have an effect on it. Any suggestions on what could be wrong? Cindy Edited November 17, 2005 by Guest
Jalz Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Hi clz, Do you know if the databases are open? Im not sure how the Windows version of FMS8 works, but with the Mac version, I had to change my permissions to each file, so that fmserver could have full access read/write, which finally allowed FMS to "serve" my files
clz Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 The status of the database is Normal when I check it through the Admin Tool. I installed the trial version on my Win XP computer and it works fine. I went to another computer that is running FMP 8, we could see the server and my computer but could only see the Sample database on my computer. There is a setting on my server that I am missing. Cindy
Steven H. Blackwell Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 First, don'y try to connect via FMP to a hosted file under FMS from the same computer. FMS and FMP should not be run on the same machine at the same time. Second, check to be sure that the hosted file has the fmapp Privilege Set bit checked. This allows for network sharing. Third, be sure that the software firewalls on XP are set to allow Port 5003. HTH Steven
clz Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 Steven, I won't be running FMP and FMS on the same computer. I just did that as a quick test to see if I could see the Sample database. I did go to a coworkers computer who could see both my computer and the server but could only see the Sample database on my computer, not the server where I want to host everything. I just did this to verify that the Sample database didn't require any configuring and that the problem must be a setting on the server. The Privilege Set bit is checked and the box to not display the database for remote access is not checked. The firewall on my computer is turned off since I am inside a secure network and a router on my network has the firewall not the server. Any other suggestions?!! Cindy
clz Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 I talked with FileMaker pre-sale support yesterday and two different people there told me FM Server 8 would work with Small Business Server. Today I called back to see if they could help me and the person I spoke with told me it will not work. Very frustrating. I have been told that turning off Sharepoint services would fix the problem. We don't use it so I don't have a problem with turning it off. So that is my next step. I'll let you know if it works! Cindy
