icefield Posted August 9, 2001 Posted August 9, 2001 hi folks. i am building a relational master database that will pull data across tcp/ip. the problem is that when the db's are being shared at the host location, no editing (defining fields, etc.) can take place. does fm pro server fix this? i am currently using fm pro 5. thanks, ez
bobsmith Posted August 9, 2001 Posted August 9, 2001 In FM 5 you can edit files if no one is in the file. You do not have to take the file offline but you will have to have everone exit.
LiveOak Posted August 10, 2001 Posted August 10, 2001 To enhance the last answer a little. With the file hosted by server and other guests present, you can create and modify layouts, if they aren't being modified by another guest. You can also create and change scripts (same restriction). With the file hosted by server and no other guests, you can define fields and modify relationships. You have to close files on the Server and open them with a normal version of FM to change passwords or the order of layouts. -bd
icefield Posted August 10, 2001 Author Posted August 10, 2001 thanks! i just downloaded the server demo and will tweak with it today. regards, ez
