fmpro7 and fms8 advanced

Featured Replies

Hi. I have created a db in fmpro7 and am proposing it to my company to use. We don't have fm in our line of software products, therefore we will have to buy new software.

If i bought fms8 advanced would it be able to run fmpro7 files? Is FMS8 only software I run on a seperate machine or is it actual hardware? If i do have to switch everything to FM 8, would my files be able to be viewed in FM8?

Thanks

FMS8 can host fm7 files, no problem.

It's a software product, check out the FMI website for all the details. If you start using FM8 features, you'll still be able to open the files with FM7, but they might not function properly depending on what FM8 features you've used.

before charging off on a depoyment, please read both the Server Admin manul and the Server tech brief. These documents contain vital and important details about the corerct way to deploy both the hardware for the server and the FileMaker Server software. You will save yourself a lot of trouble if you read these documents.

[color:red]The absolute number one cause of difficulties and failed FileMaker Pro solutions is the incorrect and othewise suboptimal configuration, deployment, and management of FileMaker Server in the multi-user environment. No other cause comes even close.
