LaRetta Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 7v3a and 7v4 Server Advanced. Prior to using Server, all files were in one folder. Three aux files wouldn't open when called from external sub-script in main file (even though all settings said they should), so I had added Open (Hidden) to these files in main file startup. They worked fine for a year. We just moved them all to databases directory in Server. All aux files open fine when called except one (my Date Picker file). When Date Picker is called from stand-alone (or LAN) it opens fine but when served nothing happens - no error messages, it simply won't function. I have changed nothing in this file (or my main file) which affects it. Two questions please: 1) Should I remove the Open (Hidden) on these files on startup? I've read that Server can find them easily if they are in Databases directory. 2) Any clues why this one file won't open only when served if it's with the rest of the files? Ideas appreciated! :wink2:
Steven H. Blackwell Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 (edited) Check to be sure that Server allows you to open the number of files that you wish to open and not a lower number. The symptoms you describe are characteristice of too low a setting for number of files allowed to be opened. Steven Edited November 23, 2005 by Guest
LaRetta Posted November 24, 2005 Author Posted November 24, 2005 I will check when I get back to the office on Monday. If I recall (and I was in a bit of a hurry), I was unsure on whether to specify maximum FILES or whether each table within a file counts as a database. I realize a table IS a database but it didn't seem clear. Also, does this figure multiply by how many Users are accessing (either through network or remotely)? I believe I listed 40 - thinking it meant (4 files multiplied by 8 Users). If it means straight tables then yes, I'm in trouble. My main file alone has 42 tables. Thank you, Steven!! :wink2:
Steven H. Blackwell Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 No, it means files. And you don't multiply it by the number of users. So, if you have 4 files, set the number to be hosted as 6. Always give a little leeway. Thre is a separate setting for the number of users. HTH Steven
LaRetta Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 Thank you, Steven! Ok. I have it set to 20 'files' (which I will drop down to 6) so there must be something else going on. I have Developer on my system so I can debug ... but I haven't had time to figure out how to set it so I can have design access from my computer. We just upgraded to vs. 7.0v3 from v1. And I noticed today that none of my small windows freeze on top like they used to - major bummer. The small windows keep dropping behind. And DatePicker is a small popup. I would bet it's dropping behind. But it STILL should be coming forward when called ... Can anyone think of changes between versions that would make my windows no longer work the way they did? That's the ONLY change we've made. If the version has changed something here, I'm going to have a lot of scripts to tweak. LaRetta
