Contact Database/Importing From Access

Featured Replies

Hi There FM Forum,

Take that this is my first post and combine it with the fact that I'm a pretty new user to Filemaker7, I'm hoping this is a pretty easy question to answer even though it has completly dumbfounded me for a few days now. My question is two parted, I'm not sure if this is in the proper forum or not, so I'll apologise in advance.

I have an access database I want to import into filemaker, Ii downloaded the odbc driver butt dont see it anywhere. Is there a plain english way to do this simply?

Thanks,

Jake

I've imported a few Access databases into FileMaker before. Presuming that this is a one-time transfer, I wouldn't bother with the ODBC thing. It'll work, but it's a big pain to set up.

Rather, I've saved (exported) the Access table(s) as an Excel spreadsheet(s). FileMaker can easily import Excel spreadsheets directly. To make it even easier, I rename the column headings to match the fields in the FM table, supposing that the field names are different. This makes it easier, so I don't have to match the fields manually when importing.
