xochi Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I'd like to let a few semi-trusted users experiment with creating mail merges. To do this, I need to give them 1. Ability to edit a single layout. 2. Ability to read the relevant merge fields. 3. Ability to define / change fields & calculations. #1 and #2 are easy. #3 I'm having trouble with. Is there a way to let a user define fields in a single table, without giving them any other permissions that are dangerous?
Ender Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 3. is not possible. Only [Full Access] passwords can access the Define Database dialog.
Wim Decorte Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Check out the "Evaluate" function. With this, users can create calcs in a text field and the function will produce a result in another field. So if you give the users enough dummy fields, they can create their own calcs...
xochi Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 Good suggestion, thx. I was also thinking -- what if I created the Sandbox in a new FILE with just one table? That way, I could give the users full access, and they could define fields at will. I suppose this might create security issues, as the users (who are not malicious, but may make mistakes) could do something foolish like create an account w/o a password...
Steven H. Blackwell Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 To create a mail merge, why do end users need access to define fields? Steven
