I would like to create and maintain one layout and have that layout serve two groups of users. Group 1 has read/write access to all fields. Group 2 has read access to some fields, read/write access to others.

I will have a login screen where I can store the user's group number in a global variable.

Can I then dynamically change field permissions for the layout based on this variable? Thanks.

Filemaker has all these features built-in in Accounts and Privileges. What you call a group is a privilege set.
