Relationship Foundation for Palm Synch

Hi all:

I'm sure this is a common scenario, and I'm sure it's right under my nose, but at this point i have to admit that I'm completely stumped...

I have a multi-user database of 'Contacts': the standard names and addresses. This DB has to remain multi-user, as it works with other databases in the same solution. However, I want to be able to synchronize this DB with my Palm via Filemaker Mobile.

FM Mobile doesn't work with multi-user databases. Which means that I have to have another single-user database which contains all the "Contacts" db records; let's call it "PalmContacts." I want to set it up so that every time i create a record in Contacts, the same record is automatically created in "PalmContacts." Conversely, every time a record is created in "PalmContacts," it appears in "Contacts."

In this way, I can set up FM Mobile to work with "PalmContacts," and the info will automatically update "Contacts." Conversely, I can import from the Palm into "PalmContacts," and the info there will automatically update "Contacts."

If there is a way to do it, I would like all of this to work from the Synchronization process. In other words, I don't want to have to press a button that imports/matches fields between "Contacts" and "PalmContacts" every time I want to update the database.

Any advisement here would be much appreciated...

Kindest Regards and Thanks,

John

Two way synchronization via Filemaker Mobile will be pretty tough. But most of the work required is straight Filemaker Pro work.

What you would probably want to do is to create a script that is part of your "New Contact" script which creates the new contacts in the PalmContact file, as well as an "Update Contacts" script in the PalmContacts file which scans the PalmContact database and add/updates Contacts as needed.

The Filemaker Mobile sync will cover the more difficult Filemaker <--> Palm synchronization, you just need to keep two Filemaker files synchronized.

If this is more than a simple single user issue, you might want to consider looking into SyncDek (I forget who makes it) which is a Filemaker/Palm synchronization development suite.
