tday Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 We are planning to purchase a new server, and would like to move our existing FMserver 5 app and its databases to the new server. I searched through the archives but couldn't find much. Anyone know where there is documentation on the steps for this? Any pitfalls you are aware of through your experience doing this? Thanks, Tom
tday Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 sorry, guess I was a litte cryptic. We are going to purchase a new Dell server. We want to install FMserver 5 app on the Dell and then move our V5 databses to this new Dell.
BrentHedden Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Nothing really hard about doing this. Although, I've never seen any actual documentation concerning this. Besides the obvious moving of files, two things you want to make sure of - 1) the FileMaker Server service isn't running on both machines at the same time, 2) that the Server Consol settings are the same on the new machine as the current one.
stanley Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 One thing I do when replacing an FMS box is to give it the IP address of the old box, once the old box has been taken offline. The reason for this is that it's possible for some client machines to seem to stumble a bit if the FM Server's IP address has changed. This mostly has to do with Opener Files, and generally shouldn't be a problem. -Stanley
flapjacks Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I don't believe that you can run the same server on a network. (License conflict). John
Wim Decorte Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 If you have a lot of schedules etc, save the old FMS preferences from the registry and import them on the new machine. Will save you some time even if you have to adjust some of them.
