Copy many layouts from one table to another file

I've converted several files from fm5 to fm7. I'm now putting all the files into one file and relating the tables. No problem. The problem is some of those files have a very large number of layouts that are mostly custom reports and other things that the client prints out all the time.

How in the world am I going to escape the slow tedium of recreating each layout in the new solution file??

You should be able to select all, copy, and paste them into the newly 'merged' file. Just make sure that when you create a new layout, that you are creating a new layout for the appropriate table.

How do I select all of them?

What, was that just too dumb of a question? But for the life of me I don't see how you can go into Layout mode, select all the layouts, copy them [and their elements and attributes, etc.] and then paste them into a new file.

You can do this with tables [and their respective fields and field definitions]. And as far as I know, you cannot do that with Layouts.

Right?

No you can not select all the layouts and copy them over to a new file.

You will have to copy and paste each layout into a new one. Select All is Ctrl-A.

There are articles, hints, and briefs on the migration process. Do a search in these forums and you should find plently of references.

Thank you John. I just wanted t confirm that I couldn't do that.

Otherwise I've had very good success with migrating, importing, checking filed calcs, script calcs and populating the tables.

It seems to really just be a matter or paying attention to the calcs and mastering how the relationships are built and why.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Oops. For a Mac, its Open Apple A, I think. Or if you want to in Layout mode, go to Edit --> Select All.

Then copy all the objects / fields. Paste them into the new layout. You have to do this from a converted 7 file to a new 7 file. You can NOT copy and paste from FM5 to FM7.
