Is there a way to put an MS Word doc in a container or any other field and get a word count?

Not easily. You'd need a VBscript to

- put the Word doc back on the hard disk

- ask Word to calculate the word count

- write that number to a text file

- tell FileMaker to import the text file

- (delete the word document)
