Erik Saline Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Running FMP 5.5 Server on mainly Mac platform. One client(Mac OS 10.3) can not use the send mail feature. Nothing happens when they click on a button used for sending an email. It creates an email with a few fields added into the message. It works on any other client. I have noticed this before and was only able to fix by updating to FMP 6. I no longer have that option. I have reinstalled Filemaker 5.5 and the v2 updater. I reinstalled Entourage Office X. Nothing.
Erik Saline Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 I have checked permissions and checked the system log.
IdealData Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 I think there are 2 problems here. First you must have OS X know what is the default mail/internet applications. Here's the clipping from OS X Help Setting your preferred Internet applications You can choose which application opens when you click an Internet address link in a document (such as a Mail message), open a Web Internet Location file in the Finder, or click a properly formatted email address on a webpage. For example, you can make Safari your default web browser and Mail your default email application. To set Safari and Mail as your default Internet applications: Open Safari, then choose Safari > Preferences. Click the General icon, and then choose Safari from the Default Web Browser pop-up menu. Open Mail, then choose Mail > Preferences. Click the General icon, and then choose Mail from the Default Email Reader. Safari and Mail are both located in your Applications folder. Secondly, I don't think Entourage X is a supported e-mail client in FMP 5.5/6, here's the list from FMP Help system Mac OS: Claris Emailer, Qualcomm Eudora Light, Eudora Pro, Microsoft Outlook Express 5, Mac OS X Mail, or Microsoft Entourage installed to send email with FileMaker Pro. The Internet control panel (Mac OS) or the Internet system preferences (Mac OS X) configured for use with one of the supported mail applications. HTH
Erik Saline Posted January 18, 2006 Author Posted January 18, 2006 Thank you for your insight. Entourage was in the list. The problem was Entourage, as far as I could find, does not have preference to make a default. When first installing Entourage it will ask if you want to make it the default. After the reinstall it did not ask me that. Using your help I went into the Mac OSX Mail and was able to set the default to Entourage. It was defaulted to use the Outlook Express under the Classic Startup. Thanks again. Works great now.
