nickOS Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 I think I have a serious problem. My master password and all guest passwords are not working. Every time I attempt to log in with my master password or any guest password I get a message " your access priviledges do not allow you to perform this action ". Can anyone help > Thanks/Nick
Lee Smith Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Get Info at the finder level and see if the Read/Write has been changed to Read only Lee
nickOS Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 Lee, Thanks for the suggestion. No, it has not been changed to " read " only. It is both read & write. Nick
Lee Smith Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Have there been any events with these files? have they failed are they being served, is so how. has the sever gone down has there been any changes made were they moved or migrated Lee
nickOS Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 Here is the whole story. I had the file open on my desk top assigning guest priledges to one employee who was standing by near me. I left my desk for approx. 15 minutes and upon my return the database was closed and since then I have been ubable to access it, no matter what I do. I questioned the employee and he told me that while I was absent he tried to write down his password and accidently he unchecked something on the priviledges window. Other than killing him what are my options now ? Nick
Lee Smith Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Not much. Do you have a backup? If not, you have learned a horrible lessen. Never, never, never make changes without backing everything up first. FileMaker used to offer a service for this, you can check with their web site and see if it still exist. There were some cracker software for earlier versions, don't know if they exist for v7 files. Other than that. The options are not very good. Lee
nickOS Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 Thanks Lee, I was afraid of this. I will contact FileMaker tomorrow and see if they can help out.
janedoe Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 hi, not sure if you have resolved this by now, but just want to point out that it's not possible to not have a full access account in pro 7/8, so you will still have a full access account setup, it is more likely that your colleague has 'accidentally' changed the password. check if this is the case by using a tool you can find by going to google.com.au and typing in lost password filemaker. cheers, jd.
nickOS Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 Hello jd, sorry for the late reply, I was out of town. I did contact a friend who was very helpful helping me out with my problem. i did recover the " lost" passowrd. Nick
Newbies Lawrence Leichtman Posted February 16, 2006 Newbies Posted February 16, 2006 How, may I ask. I had a similar problem. A child hit the password protection while I was putting it in and I have no clue what was entered for that. I didn't even know it had been changed until I tried to reopen the file only to find that 1 of six files in the database is now password protected with an unknown user and password. I have an older version and could re-enter the data but won' the program still ask for the password?
Lee Smith Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Try Admin in the user name and see what happens
Newbies Lawrence Leichtman Posted February 17, 2006 Newbies Posted February 17, 2006 That worked like a charm. Took my password right away. Thanks
