How to sort a filtered VL?

I created a filtered VL showing Customer ID (1st field) and customer name (2nd field). My VL filters only if I choose "sort by first field" (eg customID) in the define VL window. If I choose "sort by second field" (eg name), the VL is not filtered.

Any idea how to sort a filtered VL by second field?
