Mac clients (FM8 runtime) seem to disconnect after a while from a FMServer8 run on Win2000 - I have set the Server to run constantly (energy saving panel) but client still disconnects.

With earlier versions of FM, this was never an issue.

Any ideas appreciated

Doug ... I put it to 'never' sleep - but with Windows, who can be sure ? I have the same suspicion as there may be other settings that I am unaware of (I am a Mac user).

yes - I never had a problem with FM6.

The reason why I have a runtime version on the Mac: I want an app to run in the kiosk mode to protect it from misuse. It is a client that guides visitors in a building. I needed to make it 'foolproof' so the next visitor would find the app the same way as everyone. Unfortunately, people do all odd things when they use it.

... Martin, there is a big difference between a runtime and a filemaker file in kiosk mode... i really thought i had missed something major for the past six months when you said your runtime was connecting to a server... please dont ever do that again :)

Aflgenx: huh? I was complimenting you! FM 8 runtimes *cannot* connect to FMS-shared files, so something in Martin's original post isn't right.

Martin: you don't have to convert the files to runtimes to use kiosk mode. Perhaps you've used the developer tool (iow FMP 8 Advanced) to activate kiosk mode, but the Macs are actually running FMP 8 client software to connect to the FM Server.
