Creating a Print Image file

I have a Mental Health Office management solution that is calling out for the addition of electronic billing capability. I want to create a file known as a Print Image file. Such a file is a text file that uses spaces and line feeds to position the text as it would appear on a HCFA 1500 form, the standard insurance claim form. While there are several possibilities for formatting service claims (NSF, ANSI, and Print Image, etc), my question here focuses on the production of a Print Image file.

The solution already has all of the necessary for the production of the PI file, as hard-copy HCFA production has always been part of its capabilities. I'm feeling stumped on how to transfer the output that currently goes to the printed HCFA (which uses a layout populated with the appropriate fields allowing for exact placement) to an output that requires horizontal positioning through the use of spaces.

While I use the solution with FMP 6, the use of either 7 or 8 is a possibility if those versions contain features that would make it easier to produce such a file. Thanks in advance for any assistance on this. ...gg
