Whenever I try and delete a field I get a "Scanning for References" progress bar. I did notice some old file references, so I removed those, but the problem persists.

Any ideas?

Working with a copy, save a copy of the file "Compacted" and see if it persists.

Unfortunately the problem still persists. Should I try a Recover? FMP Server hasn't flagged any problems with the files.

Is there a related table, and one (or more) relationships set to delete related records?

I have an interface file and a data file. There are relationships set to delete records, but even if I uncheck that option the problem persists. And I'm just trying to delete global fields that aren't used in any relationships.

FWIW, if I create a dummy field and then delete it, the deletion happens immediately. I've never had this problem before, so I wonder what I'm doing wrong.
