Locking related files

Featured Replies

Is their a way to lock a related file. I would like to view the field and have it update but not be able to make any changes from the masterfile?

Thanks

Andy

Andy,

Andy here. This should get Dan going again.

In your related file you could always select the fields and in field format turn off allow entry.

Now it can only be edited from the related file.

Or you could create a password in the related file that disallows editing of records (you'll also have to create a full-access password -- generally, the "limited access" password is just blank). Then set the preferences in the related file to auto-enter the limited access password.

Frankly, the previous answer is better, but I just hate to leave a thread to just one name. laugh.gif

P.S. When creating the relationship, you can also set it up so that you can't create related records, but that's different from editing already existing records.

Thanks again I went into field format and deselect allow entry.
