I am compiling a historical database of political leaders. Some of the individuals are related to other individuals in the database, most are not.

If one person in the database is another's child, for example, how can I most easily check if the parent is also in the database? There will be a number of fields that are well suited to compare individuals: names, birthdates, death dates, aristocratic titles.

The challenge that I am most concerned about is that I would like the database to alert me to probable relationships. I would also like to link fields if individuals are related to each other.
