set field across records?

Featured Replies

Hi -

This is a question from a rank amateur.

I'm trying to implement a script that, among other things, performs a find request. The find criteria are based upon fields in a record from another table.

The problem I'm having is that once I execute the perform find step, I seem to lose the ability to reference the record from the previous table. I base this assertion on the results of inserting a custom dialog to display the contents, before and after the search. After the search, the prior table's fields come up empty.

I hope I'm explaining this clearly; I don't know how else to put it. But the question seems to be: how to go about assigning field values across tables?

Thanks for any help...

When you're in find mode, your record context isn't defined, so you need to store your record-specific criteria in a variable prior to entering find mode, and then use set field to populate the right fields once you're there.

In v8, you could use script variables to do this

In v7, you could use script parameters

In v6, you would have to use global fields to store the temp values during the script.
