Newbies elrod76 Posted February 14, 2006 Newbies Posted February 14, 2006 Hello, I'm quite new to FM, but I have to make an inventory for my faculty. There is a complete inventory for the school that I can use. What I want is to make a database per classroom. In there I want two fields. One with the hardware ID number and one with the descritpion. I want to be able to enter the Hardware ID and have FM find the description in the school inventory. Where do I start?.......
Ender Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Are you looking for a ready-made solution, or are you planning on building this yourself? (Your topic was posted in the "Solutions Wanted" section, but the questions seem to indicate you're willing to build it yourself.) While there may be free Asset Management templates out there, they are usually lacking in some respect. But if you build it yourself, I'm sure we'll have some pointers.
Lee Smith Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Ender is correct. It does sound like you are wanting to tackle this yourself. Take a look at the templates that came with your copy of FileMaker, there may be something the asset file you can use.l I can move this topic to the Resource Topic if you want too. Lee
Newbies elrod76 Posted February 15, 2006 Author Newbies Posted February 15, 2006 I do want to make it myself, unless someone has a script or something. You can move it to the correct forum, that's allright with me. Thanx for the reply
Lee Smith Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 (edited) Although FileMaker is very user friendly, it still has a learning curve. There are some things you can do to help you through this curve, like reading the Manual (wont take long), and check out the Reference Topic area on Books, videos and class room offers. The forum can help you with your questions as they come up, and there are sample files available here and at some sites that are like http://www.databasepros.com/, and training videos, files, etc available at http://www.filemakermagazine.com/. As I stated before, there is an Asset Management Sample file in your Templates you got with your application. Lee I moved the question to relationships, as it seem to match your question Edited February 15, 2006 by Guest
