OK I just want to have it confirmed somewhere that the new tab controls CANNOT in fact be used for navigation to go from one layout to another where the layouts are based on different tables (at least not without transparent button overlays or other creative ways of approaching this.)

Tabs are really meant to increase the useable area of a single layout. You can put portals in tabs which will give you a view into related data but tabs really just let you put more of the same type of stuff on a layout.

Do transparent overlays work when paced over Tab label? I am having trouble getting them to work.
