Kathy Hirsh Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I've been using FileMaker for many years. All of a sudden, the first page of my documents is printing as Page 0. Also, I generally use Palatino as my font, but it prints as something else (looks somewhat like Helvetica) so I just changed the font to Helvetica. I've gone into the Print Dialog Box, selected Copies and Pages and then FileMaker. It says "Number pages from 0" (don't know how that happened). I change it to 1, but it won't hold the change and the first page still prints as Page 0. I've tried trashing my preferences. I've been trying to figure this out for two days and I'm desperate. PLEASE HELP! By the way, this is happening on all my FileMaker files.
Lee Smith Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Since this started happening, has their been any changes in Operating System, File Failure, etc. print drivers, etc. Lee
Kathy Hirsh Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 No. The only thing I can think of that's different is I loaded the 30-day trail software for FileMaker 8. I thought perhaps that was causing a conflict (even though I've had other versions on my system just because I was too lazy to delete them). After deleting the trial software, I'm still having the problem.
Lee Smith Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 That shouldn't be the problem, I have four different version on my Mac. I remember reading something about a problem with installing v8 after having had the Demo, but I did this and had NO problems at all. How long have you been using 10.4 Lee
Kathy Hirsh Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 I've been using Tiger for several weeks. I'm not absolutely positive that I've been able to print correctly since loading Tiger. Maybe we're getting somewhere! Any thoughts on how to proceed?
Lee Smith Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 check for updates on Tiger, and printer drivers. I kind of recall a print problem with Tiger and v6, but I could be wrong. Old Memory doesn't work like it used to. Lee
Kathy Hirsh Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know what happened.
Kathy Hirsh Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 Well, here's how I solved the problem. Although I looked for (and downloaded) updates, there was nothing to solve my problem. So I reloaded the FileMaker 8 trial software. My page numbers are fine and the font is fine. Now that I've got my project done I can spend more time trying to figure out how to fix it permanently since I'm not sure I want to upgrade to v. 8 just yet.
Lee Smith Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Hi Kathy, Thanks for reporting back. This is a new one to me, maybe others have heard about it before, but it sounds like a bug, and maybe you should report this FMI. If you nail it down, please update us. TIA Lee
Kathy Hirsh Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 Lee, As you suggested, I contacted FileMaker. Here's the latest. FileMaker 6 has not been verified (I'm not sure that's the word) for Tiger. So I can either go back to Jaguar or upgrade to FileMaker 8. Fun with computers! Kathy
Lee Smith Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 [color:blue]FileMaker 6 has not been verified I suspect that that is their way of saying they are not supporting it any longer. It is customary for FileMaker to only support current version and one version back.. You might find it hard going back to OSX 10.3.x as it may make it necessary for you to reformat your Hard Drive. I still use v6, and only recently upgraded to version 8 [color:blue] Advance . If you are planning to upgrade, I think you will like the new tools. IMHO, go for the [color:blue]Advance, as it is worth the difference in price. Lee
Kathy Hirsh Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 I looked at Advance briefly but didn't quite understand the difference. Can you tell me the difference?
Lee Smith Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 The Advance Edition is the standard edition plus the developer tools. Among other things, it lets you create and implement Custom Function, Custom Menus, Debug Scripts, create Runtime Solutions, and Database Design Report., etc. You can read about it on the FMI site. Oldfogey Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Hate to dampen the enthusiasm for V8. I had a different version of this problem running V6 on a Mac with OS9.2 printing through an Appletalk network. In a database of 10-15 files, one(1) only printed Field Definitions and Scripts starting at Page 0. I am sure I resolved the problem but can't remember how. Sorry. The 'Start page numbers from' thing rings a bell; I think it is a Mac only option so can't find/check it on my PC. By the way, V8 has more printing problems than all the previous versions put together. It's still fabulous.
