Hi Folks. The NightWing Enterprises web site is now listing a new Audit Logging technique file for FileMaker 7 and 8.

Since we'd already published an audit log technique file for FileMaker 7 (back in March 2004), you might find it curious that we've released another one. But this one brings the technology to a new level of simplicity and effortlessness, allowing comprehensive user edit logging functionality to occur with a single (custom) function and only one field per table.

Info and downloads available online at:

We will not be withdrawing the original AuditTracker which was released in March 2004 as part of the 747 set of demos. Although more complex to implement, it provides flexibility which may make it better suited to some implementations. So the two techniques may be viewed as complementary, with the latest release focusing on compactness and ease of implementation.

I don't think it gets much more streamlined than this. You need FMP Advanced (or Developer 7) to install (copy) the Custom Function into your file/s, but from there on, it's one auto-enter text field with a very simple-to-use function (only two parameters) per table. This enables the process to capture previous and new values for each logged field as well as associated status indicators (date, time, user etc).

The demo file at the above link is unlocked, so you'll be able to take a look at how the thing works. :P

Very nice, Ray!

Thanks. Much appreciated.
