problem w/ authenticating users

Featured Replies

Hi -

I recently broke a small DB into separate files. On my development system, a Mac, all went fine. When I moved it over to the target platform (Windows XP), however, FM Pro requires the user to log into *both* the interface and the data files.

Is this expected behavior? If not, what might I have done wrong?

Thanks...

mz

Seems like the accounts don't match up between the two files. On Mac you may not have noticed if you stored the logins in your keychain. Make sure the account names and pw's are identical in both files.

Thanks, Wim...is it possible to set up the DB so that one of the files doesn't have any account information, or is it just SOP to maintain both files in the separated configuration?

The accounts live in the files, so they do have to be duplicated across multiple files. One way to avoid this is to use external authentication. OpenDirectory on Mac, and Active Directory on Win... Then you just set up a group name that matches the group name for the external server, and set up the accounts with that group on the server.

Without external auth., you can use scripting to propogate accounts across files.

Like Reed says.

And even with External Authentication the "group" names need to exist in both files. Scripted Account creation doesn't work for Externally Authenticated accounts but tools like FMrobot can help out there.
