When I import new records, they seem to be grabbing existing serial numbers..and pushing the others down. How do I make it grab a unique serial number starting from the end of the list??

I'm unclear on what you mean "grabbing existing serial numbers..and pushing the others down."

Have you set up a serial field (with Auto-Enter serial, increment by 1)? When new records are added, FM will assign the next available serial number. It works very well. Do you have a Show All Records first? But even if you didn't, an auto-enter serial knows to assign new numbers to incoming data.

Can you explain more of what you are doing so we can pin down the problem? One thing you must be sure of ... when importing, you MUST click the radio 'Perform Auto-Enter' or the serial won't work.

I figured out that the NEXT VALUE wasn't set to the last serial number in the database. When I set it to grab the next available serial number it works fine and set re-sets itself to the next available serial number.
