Ricardo Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Hi All, I have a FM Pro 8Adv db which i will be hosting out using IWP. Can i host this simply through FMPro 8Adv or do i need to use FM Server 8Adv? I understand i will only have maybe 5 users maximum logging on. I have been told i need a Windows Server OS if i am to host this via FM Server 8adv??? Also...If i just use Fm Pro 8 Adv can i change the IWP home page to my own home page? thanks in advance.
John May - Point In Space Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 You can use FileMaker Pro 8 (normal or Advanced) to host via IWP, with a limitation of 5 simultaneous sessions. For more sessions, you'd need to use FileMaker Server Advanced, which offers 100 concurrent sessions. These methodologies work with both Mac OS X and Windows. I'm not sure about changing your home page with FileMaker Pro/Advanced, but do know you can definitely do it with FileMaker Server Advanced. - John
Reed Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 You can change your IWP home page with plain FMP/advanced. In the /Applications/FMP/Web folder, place your custom home page file and name it iwp_home.html
Ricardo Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 Do i also need to place the actual db in the web folder?
Vaughan Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 No, indeed you do NOT want the db in the web folder. The db needs to be in the folder that's opened by FM Server. There should be no direct access to the dbs, only through FMS.
Ricardo Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 Im not using Server as i only require a max of 5 users.
Ricardo Posted March 20, 2006 Author Posted March 20, 2006 I have placed a file named 'iwp_home.html' in the web folder of Filemaker 8 Advanced and i still get the default FM Home page. Instant web publishing is turned on for the file i wish to host. Here is the path where i have placed iwp_home.html file: C:Program FilesFileMakerFileMaker Pro 8 AdvancedWeb Can anyone think what i am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
