April 20, 200124 yr I have inherited a database running on FMP 4.1 and would like to prevent some users from being able to edit the value lists. Any ideas. Thanks. Bob Sherman
April 27, 200124 yr When you define Passwords, one of the options under Privileges is Define Value Lists. For the appropriate password(s), uncheck this to disable the ability. If you are not working with a security system, you don't have to set up something elaborate. You can set up one password for users with tons of access and one for users with limited access or whatever.
April 29, 200124 yr Author I have tried that restriction with a password, but as long as "edit" is selected and shows up in the value list, everyone can modify, or worse delete. Suggestions?
April 29, 200124 yr Navigate to the layout where the field appears, go to layout mode, click on the field, pull the Format menu to Field Format, and uncheck the "Include Edit" item. -bd [ April 29, 2001: Message edited by: LiveOak ]
May 1, 200124 yr Author Maybe I have missed something, but if I uncheck "Edit" how can that value list be edited? The goal is to have a value list that can be edited by management but not edited by others. Thanks.
May 1, 200124 yr Create a separate database with a record for each value you want in the value list and protect it with a management-only passward. Then base your value list on the field in the new database.
