How can I enter a set of break delimited values into a field by using a query?

For example, I have the following:

areas_of_education=GED/High School?2 year College degree (Associates)?4 year college degree (Bachelors)

I want the '?' in the above string to equal breaks so that the values show up as checks in checkboxes.

I found the answer. %0a works. I'm not sure why, though.
