goto related records function

It appears the goto related record function does not work properly in advanced 8.02. The functions work fine in version 5.5. any ideas on this one. I have tried multiple script changes on a simple pair of test files and no luck.

Hi gwrand, Welcome to FM Forums!

If a GTRR doesn't GTRR, it's because it has NO relationship to GTRR to. And if it broke when upgrading (did you follow correct conversion practice if so?) then here are things to check:

Broken file references or a break between your layout table occurrence you are coming from or going to. If you have related FILES, make sure the file references are correct. Then check your Layouts > Layout Setup and make sure 'Show Records From' is FROM and TO the correct TOs. Check your graph and make sure all TOs are right - look for dark grey TOs (signifying breaks).

If this doesn't help you, let us know. It might help to see the file. But yes, GTRR works properly in 8.0v2. :wink2:

If your destination for the results is in another file, make sure you're using the "use external table's layout" option. One change in behavior of the GTRR step, is that it skips it if there are no related records. This can be dealt with by testing for related records prior to the GTRR step.

If these don't resolve it, perhaps you can post your script or a sample file with the problem.

Flaws in the logic might also stem from type mismatch for the keyfields. Being number on one side will only match some text on the other side and opposite.

Since ver. 5.5 has filemaker relations changed into bidirectional, which in most migrations should turn out in relational graps in all files involved, but if a filereference is missing isn't the graph going to survive it so only the files own table occures if investigating the graph ...but it only matters if relations goes used to go both ways.

One change in behavior of the GTRR step, is that it skips it if there are no related records.

It's not the entire story, although the counting you suggests is mentioned in this as well:
