Converting Lookup Value List to Custom Values List

Featured Replies

I've inherited a Filemaker database originally created in Filmaker 2.0. Its been converted to Filemaker 5.0 but several value listsare currently lookup lists referencing a separate database field. The only thing in these separate databases are one field of values. I'd like to convert these to custom value lists instead and eliminate some of the databases I'm serving. Any issues I should be aware of? Will old records maintain their current information after this switch?

Thanks for any help.

Erik

Good news...

Changing the contents of a Value List does not affect existing data.

The only thing to watch out for is when you do a Find, the pop-up list might not show all the values that already exist in your records. This won't be a problem if you recreate the old value lists exactly, or you can alway use Insert>>From Index... to see all the existing values.
