Testing for access method

Featured Replies

Is there any way to test for the method used by clients to access a database. In particular, I want to know if a server file was opened via http in a web browser or directly using FM Pro.

Get(ApplicationVersion) returns the following possible results depending on how your accessing a FileMaker database:

- Pro (version) for FileMaker Pro.

- ProAdvanced (version) for FileMaker Pro Advanced.

- Runtime (version) for FileMaker Runtime.

- Web (version) for FileMaker Web Client.

- Server (version) for FileMaker Web Server.

For example, my machine returns "ProAdvanced 8.0v3". SO, you will have to parse out some the data to figure out the access point. Use the following formula:

LeftWords(Get(ApplicationVersion); 1)

This will return just the current application without the version so you can more easily test in a conditional statement.
