from HELP ON LINE of FileMaker:

Length function

Length(field)

Parameter

field - any text, number, date, time, timestamp, or container field, or any text expression or numeric expression

Data type returned

Description

Returns the number of characters in field, including all spaces, numbers, and special characters. [color:red]For a container field, Length returns the total stored size of objects in bytes.

But the real dimension of the object is lower ! (much lower for picture that aren't .jpg)

Who knows the why ?

I believe FM converts different graphics to one format (jpg?). I have seen significant increases in storage for graphics in FM files.

Incidentally, please update your profile as you quoted from the FM8 help. The FM7 help does not offer the file size.
