I am obviously a beginner, is there any way to just have the data from check boxes that are checked to appear in the report, not all the boxes, checked or unchecked. For the radio buttons as well.

You can define another field to show in the report that is a calculations of the checked boxes.

Calculate field -

Anolther option may be to use a printing layout in which you format the fields as "Standard" instead of as "Checkbox", "Radio", etc.
