button on table view not showing

I made a button to navigate back to the main menu, but would like the data to show up in a table mode only. The button doesn't show up unless it's in form mode, is that correct?

I put the button in the header, in the footer on the side, but am not having any luck unless it's in form mode.

Did I miss this point in the documentation?

(for other newbies---

go to Layout Setup> Views Tab > Table view> Properties> and

Toggle "include header part or footer part")
