Please could someone confirm that the 'Other' option in Value Lists does not work on PCs (as opposed to Macs where it does work) and that this is not just a local problem with my databases.

Perhaps it's not so obvious but it works on every platform.

The option "other" is greyed out even on macs when you select pop-up list because you can "always" enter an value which is not listed by doubleclicking on pop-up list, so you don't have to specify it.

I am aware that you can type a value in when the field is formatted as a pop up list, but how about when it is a pop up menu?

Sorry, not very clear in that last message. What I meant to say is you do not seem to be able to use the 'Other' value in a pop-up menu on a PC.

Hi,

Other is only available as an option when you choose pop-up menu. (PC or MAC).

As DJ said, this is because you can click into the field when formatted as a pop-up list, whereas pop-up menu you cannot.

Hope this clears your confusion.

Did you know ....

If you use the Alt key (ctrl on Windoze ?) when selecting a pop-up menu field you can select multiple entries from the list !!!

The SHIFT Key on both platforms performs the same functionality on a pop-up menu.

Alternatively, code it so if you want multiple, show a checkbox value list for that field. Saves the user having to remember to hold down shift.

Bummer, if they select 10 items, then on the eleventh let go of shift. (DOH! )
