Alisun Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I have a field called "MD", which has a long list of doctors. Some are listed by initials, some by last name, and other variations. I plan on making this consistent. But first, I'd like to print out this list, to see exactly what I'm dealing with. Is there a way to print the Index ? Thanks, Alisun
John Mark Osborne Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 The easiest way is to create a new layout with a subsummary part. Choose to sort or break the subsummary part by the MD field. Place the MD field in the subsummary part. You don't need any other parts or fields. When you want to print or preview, show all your records, sort by the MD field and enter preview mode or print.
Alisun Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 Thanks... I must have did something wrong when creating the subsummary however, because I wiped out my entire MD field... All the data in that field was erased. I'm not sure what went wrong. Thank goodness that I always make back up copies! **I still have a question about searching with subsummaries**: Are subsummaries the equivalent of an Index? As in, will a subsummary list each unique variable in a field one time? (Like the index at the back of a book, where each subject is listed once)? Thanks, Alisun
