watsj Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 My database is designed as the front end to a MySQL database. I have a problem with the apostrophies. Many of my texts have apostrophies in them but the SQL database interprets them as separators. I have tried the "Substitute" function & the "Find/Replace" function in Filemaker to replace the apostrophy with an accent character, but the functions do not seem to recognize these characters. Does any one have an idea how I can replace these apostrophies?
PeterHW Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Works fine for me. Try enclosing the ' and the ` within the quotes ("") that you choose from the calculation operator list when using "replace field contents" Regards, Peter
watsj Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 It still isn't working for me. I am working on a Mac. Maybe that is the problem. Is there a way to specify Characters by their Unicode in Filemaker calculations?
Lee Smith Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 (edited) Be sure that you are looking for the rigth kind of apostrophies, they can be either a plain apostrophies, or a curly apostrophies,. I usually turn off Smart Quotes, aka curly quotes. HTH Lee Edited May 26, 2006 by Guest
