Newbies papabear Posted May 31, 2006 Newbies Share Posted May 31, 2006 "File/Save a Copy As is greyed out on my database when it is hosted by Filemaker Server 8. I cannot run script to auto clone database under development. Any workarounds or have I missed something?
IdealData
This has always been the case. Server hosted files cannot be saved elsewhere, even with master password access.
Newbies papabear Posted June 1, 2006 Author Newbies Share Posted June 1, 2006 Thank you. It's the first time I've tried developing using Server.
Steven H. Blackwell
1. Don't do schema level development on hosted files especially if the connection is WAN based. 2. FileMaker Server can do its own backup at specified intervals. [color:red]I want to recommend strongly that before jumping into using FileMaker Server that you carefully read the Server Administrators Guide found on the install CD. FileMaker Server is a totally different product than FileMaker Pro client. Steven
Our Town
If we saved a clone copy of the database (off the server/on our desktop), exported ALL the data when we wanted to "Save a Copy as", then performed an external script in the cloned copy on our desktop to import the exported data??? Then we'd have the clone filled with the current data and basically have "saved a copy of the file." Of course, each time we'd have to rename the backup file and reset the clone for the next "save a copy." Just thinking of a way to do this... :P
