Scott Pon
I'm changing the question alittle... My company is running Filemaker 5 Server and Pro. We have talked about upgrading to version 8 on both server and pro. We were hoping to do an Upgrade, however we see that Filemaker only discusses upgrades version 5.5. Any one know why? Why was 5.5 such a big change from 5? Lets assume that we do not upgrade to 5.5 before upgrading to version 8. Has anyone had any problem with this upgrade? Thanks. Ender
No need to upgrade to 5.5 first. The file format between 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 were the same, they just added some nifty features along the way.
iMarcW
The only big deal between 5 and 5.5, as far as I know, was that 5.5 was the first Mac OS X native version, and it appears you're on Windows. At any rate, the file format is the same, whether it's 5, 5.5 or 6, so upgrading should be the same process no matter what. I just upgraded our office from 6 to 8 a few weeks ago and I was surprised about how smoothly it went. The only reason it took me any time at all is that I took some extra steps to take advantage of new features in 7-8 (multiple related tables in one file, user accounts, etc.), but those are optional steps. Scott Pon
Yes my company is on Windows, not Mac. Thank you to both of you for answering!
