Hi, i have a field that calculates the fiscal year of the current date. I also have a portal of related records that are sorted by the fiscal year, including previous and upcoming fiscal years.

How would i highlight the row in the portal for the current fiscal year? i think i have seen something similar to this done before. perhaps a container field with a fill color behind the fields?

A calculated container field in the related table will do it:

Case( fiscalYear = currentFiscalYear ; highlight )

Where fiscalYear is a field in the related table and highlight and currentFiscalYear might be fields in either table. Highlight is a global container field where you paste a square of color.

Put the container calc in the portal behind the other fields and set the graphic to enlarge to fit the frame.
