I'm not sure what you mean by a text container field.... :

to get the first 20 words from a text field would be:

LeftWords( Field ; 20 )

I hope that's what you're looking for.. if not could you give more details

What I am looking for is a calculation which would enable me to display only the first 20 to 30 words of a text field (from a Filemaker database) on a listing.lasso page (created from a lasso search page).

I'll try your suggestion!
